The Millard Classic Fishing Competition is on again this Labour Day long weekend, 28th February – 1st March, part of Bunbury’s Aquaspectacular celebration. This year there is more than $30,000.00 worth of prizes up for grabs, with the Mystery Prize – open to all adult participants – a $8500.00 Quintrex 370 Explorer boat package!! Included is the world’s best 4 stroke Suzuki 15 Hp 4 stroke and trusty Dunbier Nipper trailer. Juniors are not left out with a whole range of prizes going, plus the first 50 junior entries receive a rod and reel combo courtesy of Getaway Outdoors. This year the Bunbury and Districts Power Boat Club has expanded the competition to include spearfishing categories with prizes donated by Coastal Water Dive. This together with onshore and offshore fishing means the Millard Classic offer the largest range of categories to compete in than any other fishing competition in WA. Onshore fishers have also been given the opportunity to start Saturday evening to take advantage of the fantastic local night fishing.
If you don’t want to get your hands dirty but still want to see some big fish, the public are welcome to come down to the Power Boat Clubhouse and see the weigh-in from 2pm Sunday. As well as seeing some of the area’s finest fish, there will be children’s activities run by the kind people from Hope Warriors, a boat display, fishing and boat gear, and food and drink available (including the bar). The Department of Fisheries will be on site recording the caught fish for their research and are happy to answer any questions inquisitive young fishers may have.
